Contra Dances |
|
| And they danced. Twice
a year, the Sudbury Companies of Militia and Minute and other reenactors gather for a delightful evening
of
Contra Dancing. It's a night of merriment, food,
and drink - colonial style. The dances are "called" - the term for having the steps of the dance spoken (i.e. like some square dances) - so learning the basic moves is easy. Also, the dances start off simple, and, as the night progresses, they become a little more complicated and elegant. The public is welcome, and, no, you do not need colonial attire or a partner to participate. The Twelveth Nite Ball is held in January, and the Grand Ball at the Red Horse Tavern is held in April. |
